Dr Mark Peterson

Dr Mark Peterson is a full-time General Practitioner and a director of Taradale Medical Centre, where he also serves as a shareholder. His extensive experience in healthcare governance includes roles as Chair of the New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA) GP Council and Board, and Deputy Chair of the Hawkes Bay Primary Health Organisation (PHO).
With over 30 years of experience in General Practice, Mark has developed a deep understanding of the operational challenges and complexities facing modern medical practices. He has been a key advocate for better funding and contract negotiations within the sector, focusing on ensuring that General Practice is positioned to thrive in an evolving healthcare system.
In addition to his clinical and business responsibilities, Mark has been involved in negotiations that aim to secure fair representation for GP owners in the national healthcare framework. His goal is to create a sustainable future for General Practice, where young doctors see it as a rewarding and viable career path. Mark is driven by a desire to reform outdated funding models and ensure that the value of General Practice is recognised at all levels of the health system.
