As a member of the only national association representing practice owners you will:

• Have your say on all matters of significance for general practice owners/ providers, including PSAAP negotiations and Annual Statements of Reasonable Fee Increases
• Have representation acting directly on your behalf to provide input on regulation and policies and communicating the real-world impact of decisions made by central government
• Have support and resources to capture other income streams, such as from provision of practice/clinical space for third parties, including PHOs
• Are part of building a stronger, more impactful association.
• Are consulted (maybe for the first time) on all matters of significance for Practice Owners, e.g. PSAAP negotiations, annual contract changes
• Have an agent acting directly on your behalf to challenge regulations or policies that are untenable, e.g. you now get paid for producing Coroners Reports because of GenPro activity
• GenPro members have access to resources that support securing appropriate rental income when providing practice space or consulting rooms to third parties. However, we believe practices should have the option to deliver these services themselves rather than relying solely on external providers. This allows practices to better manage overheads and directly employ key roles like HIPs (Health Improvement Practitioners) or health coaches, tailoring these positions to meet the unique needs of their patient populations. This approach ensures flexibility in service delivery and prioritises patient-facing time over administrative tasks, ultimately enabling practices to respond more effectively to specific community health needs - whether that’s addressing diabetes, mental health, or other local priorities.

Recent examples of direct influence by GenPro include:

• The right to raise fees to a national average of $65 without triggering a fees review was a direct result of GenPro advocacy
• The right for VLCA practices to charge a different fee to non CSC holders
• The right for Contracted Providers to appoint their own agents to represent them at PSAAP
• Secured payment for Coroners' reports, ensuring fair compensation for this vital work.

GenPro has also lodged a complaint with the Commerce Commission regarding the unfair contracting arrangements that general practices are forced to sign up to.

While other associations represent primary care clinicians and PHOs, only GenPro is dedicated to advocating for practice ownership and sustainability.

General Practitioners are well supported in clinical and professional matters by other organisations, but GenPro uniquely focuses on the challenges and opportunities of practice ownership.

We represent over 50% of general practices, actively influencing national health policy and funding to support sustainable, high-quality healthcare for all New Zealanders.

GenPro has been instrumental in creating a new Contracted Providers Caucus (the Caucus), a milestone that took four years of dedicated effort, demonstrating our tenacity to drive meaningful change. GenPro provides the secretariat for the Caucus, ensuring appropriate governance to underpin robust activity on your behalf, and now leads the national arrangements for General Practice contract negotiations.
